UT Area Condo Rental Guides
Condo rentals have become a popular way to live off campus and a great alternative to cookie-cutter apartments. Individually owned by parents, students and investors, condos can offer unique furnishings, decor, lifestyle and even lease terms... often with more freedom to customize your living space and experience.
Over 20 near-campus condo complexes are found within one mile of campus (mostly north of Cumberland Street). Walk or drive to check out Fort Sanders to Lake Avenue... or Downtown to Ag Campus areas. And don't forget South Knoxville complexes 2-3 miles across the Tenn River or the many contemporary West Knoxville and historical North Knoxville condos.
Some factors to consider when choosing a condo include:
-
Neighborhood - Urban (the Fort), downtown (OldCity), quiet (TysonPark), suburban (KingstonPike)
-
Commuting time - walk to class, bike to class, drive to class (beware 20-30 min drives)
-
Parking - on the street, off the street, garage, commuter lots, free or $40-50 per month
-
Rent - $300-600 per person is typical with downtown lofts somewhat more expensive
-
Roommates - pick your own group or choose a one bedroom for maximum privacy.
-
Terms - Lease terms vary with most asking 12 month min, security deposit, cleaning fees, etc
