UT Area Neighborhoods
Near-campus housing is generally found in four neighborhoods within a half-mile of the center of campus. Low-rise condos and Victorian houses co-exist in "The Fort" (Fort Sanders historic area north of Cumberland Avenue). South of the Cumberland Strip are the new high-rise condos and older houses on Lake Avenue (closest area to the Hodges Library and center of campus). East to the Downtown and OldCity are unique rehab lofts with exposed brick and beams of former warehouse spaces. West down Kingston Pike near the Ag Campus and Tyson Park is the quiet Ag/Vet/Medical area near the Third Creek Greenway with easy access to Alcoa Highway and all Interstates.
Off-campus housing 3-5 miles away includes the South Knoxville and riverfront areas just across the Tennessee River (Fort Loudon Lake). Other choices with a short commute include North Knoxville historic areas such as 4th and Gill plus the many West Knoxville homes and condos down Kingston Pike west to WestTowne Mall and Turkey Creek shopping areas.
